Dixon Police Department Relaunches Bait Package Program to Combat Holiday Package Theft

With the holiday season upon us, the Dixon Police Department is proud to announce the relaunch of our highly effective Bait Package Program. This proactive initiative targets "porch pirates" who take advantage of the increase in package deliveries during the holidays.

The program involves deploying GPS-tracked packages in areas identified as theft-prone. When a bait package is taken, officers can swiftly respond to apprehend suspects and send a clear message: Dixon is no easy target for package thieves.

“Our goal is to protect our community and ensure a safe holiday season for all residents,” said Chief Robert Thompson. “This program, combined with public awareness, is key to reducing these crimes.”

Tips to Prevent Package Theft

While the Dixon Police Department works to deter criminals, we encourage residents to take the following steps to protect their deliveries:

  1. Schedule Deliveries: Arrange for packages to be delivered when you are home.
  2. Use Alternative Delivery Options: Consider using secure delivery lockers or having packages delivered to a trusted neighbor or workplace.
  3. Install Home Security Systems: Doorbell cameras or motion-activated cameras can deter theft and help identify suspects.
  4. Track Deliveries: Use tracking notifications to retrieve packages promptly after delivery.
  5. Request Signature on Delivery: Requiring a signature ensures packages are not left unattended.

Report Suspicious Activity

If you witness suspicious activity in your neighborhood, please report it to the Dixon Police Department at 707-678-7070. For emergencies, always call 911.

Together, we can keep our community safe and ensure everyone enjoys a joyous holiday season. For updates and safety tips, follow the Dixon Police Department on Facebook and Instagram.
