As we gather to give thanks, the Dixon Police Department extends warm wishes to our community for a safe, joyous, and restful holiday. Whether traveling to see loved ones or staying in to celebrate, we’re here to help ensure your holiday is filled with peace and security. Here are some key tips to keep your Thanksgiving safe and worry-free.
Travel Safety:
- Prepare Your Vehicle: Make sure your car is ready for the road. Check your tires, brakes, lights, and battery before setting out.
- Stay Focused: Long trips can be tiring. Remember to take regular breaks, share the driving if possible, and avoid driving while fatigued.
- Follow the Rules of the Road: Adhere to all speed limits and road signs, especially in heavy holiday traffic.
- Drive Sober: If your celebrations include alcohol, designate a sober driver or use a ride-sharing service. Let’s keep our roads safe for everyone.
Home Security Tips:
- Secure Your Home: Lock all windows, doors, garage, and pet entrances before leaving.
- Create the Illusion of Occupancy: Use timers for lights inside your home and consider motion-sensor lights outdoors.
- Pause Deliveries: A full mailbox can signal an empty home. Pause your mail if you’ll be away for more than a day or two.
- Vacation Watch Program: Sign up for our Vacation Watch service at frontlinepss.com/dixonpolice to have officers periodically check on your home while you're away.
- Stay Neighborly: Let a trusted neighbor know you’ll be gone, and ask them to keep an eye on your property. Encourage them to report any unusual activity to us.
For any non-emergencies, feel free to call us at 707-678-7070. In case of an emergency, dial 911.
Let’s make this Thanksgiving memorable for all the right reasons. Thank you for being part of what makes Dixon such a wonderful community.
Wishing you a safe and Happy Thanksgiving!
