Apply for a Business License

12/16/24- Updated renewal notices were distributed to business license holders. All business licenses that expired in November & December 2024 have been extended to February 28, 2025. 

Requirements

  • Anyone conducting business within the City of Dixon needs a current business license.
  • Business locations must be a physical address. No post office boxes are allowed within the city limits.
  • Some businesses are not allowed in certain zones or may require special approval.

New Businesses Established by Dixon Residents

The City Council adopted Ordinance 18-006 exempting new businesses established by Dixon residents, with proof of residency, from initial payment of the business license tax, excluding solicitors, peddlers and itinerant merchants.  This resolution was adopted by a 5-0 vote of the Council after a successful pilot program.

Processing

Finance will process your application in approximately 30 days. Once the application is processed, the business license will be mailed to your business location.

Business Resources

The State Board of Equalization has announced a new Electronic Registration system, aka eReg, effective June 18, 2012.

Home Occupation Permits

Any Dixon business that does not have a commercial storefront, office, or industrial location is considered a home-based business and therefore requires a home occupation permit. There is a one-time $189.00 application fee for the permit and it must be submitted with the Home Occupation Permit Application.
